Because people use napkins differently. Some tables need maximum everyday absorbency and enough structure for sauces, oil, seafood or a long meal. Others call for a softer touch, a smoother centre and a more delicate feel.

Rather than pretending one construction is perfect for everything, WOLDS will carry a mix. You will be able to choose a design you love and also understand how that particular napkin is going to feel.

Fully embossed or edge embossed: which should you choose?

Choose Soft & Durable when you want a fully embossed napkin with more texture, strength and absorbency for messy meals and repeated wiping.

Choose Softer when you prefer the smoother centre and gentler feel of an edge-embossed napkin.

Neither is a “better” napkin in every situation. They are different constructions for different preferences and occasions.

And what about Airlaid?

We are also exploring a future third level: Ultra Soft & Ultra Durable. That would be Airlaid — a more premium, cloth-like paper material with exceptional softness and durability. It is considerably more expensive, so we are still testing whether it earns its place in the WOLDS range.

Why We’re Adding Softer Edge-Embossed Napkins

Why WOLDS will offer both Soft & Durable fully embossed napkins and Softer edge-embossed napkins across different designs and sizes.

Not every WOLDS napkin needs to feel exactly the same.

Some designs will be Soft & Durable: fully embossed across the surface for more texture, structure and absorbency. Others will be Softer: edge embossed, leaving a smoother centre and a gentler feel in the hand and against the lips.

The important bit is that this is not determined by size. Edge embossing is not just for cocktail napkins, and full embossing is not just for dinner napkins. We can choose the construction design by design.

What are edge-embossed napkins?

An edge-embossed napkin is pressed mainly around the border, helping bond the plies together while leaving more of the centre smooth. That smoother centre creates the softer feel we want to offer alongside our fully embossed range.

Our first edge-embossed designs are Espresso Check and Oat Check cocktail napkins. They happen to be smaller-format napkins, but that is only the beginning. Future full-size designs may also be edge embossed and labelled Softer.
